It's despicable. It's awful. It's inhumane. It's one of those things that only sick, sick people would even dream of suggesting.
So... Once you hit a certain age, say... 70 or so, you're no longer considered a human being worth keeping alive, is that it?
"Every year, an estimated 2.1 million older Americans are victims of physical, psychological, or other forms of abuse and neglect. For every case of elder abuse and neglect reported to the authorities, experts estimate that there may be as many as five cases not reported. Research suggests elders who have been abused tend to die earlier than those not abused, even in the absence of chronic conditions or life threatening disease." http://karisable.com/elderabuse.htmThe message that this bill is sending is that we don't need to keep people alive if they can't do anything for us any more. Even if they've worked their heart out at their chosen proffesion, even if they've enriched the lives of so many around them, EVEN IF ALL THESE THINGS WERE TRUE FOR EVERY SINGLE ELDERLY PERSON, they can't do anything for us any more and so we have no use for them. Is that it?
The message that comes across to me is, "Once you hit a certain age, you're on your own. Die quietly so we don't have to deal with you."
2.1 million older Americans abused. What do you bet those numbers are just going to go up?
http://mediamatters.org/mmtv/200908060009 I highly recommend you listen to the clip from Glenn Beck's radio program. It has a lot to do with what I'm talking about. Most of the comments on it are pointless name calling ("Glenn Beck isn't a true conservative!" "Librul!" etc.). In fact, in my quick scan, I haven't been able to see anything worth reading, but, hey, go ahead. Whatever floats your boat.
